Services
General Dental Practice includes the examination, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of problems involving teeth, gums, and mouth tissue. During such activities, the FVH Dental staff will x-ray teeth to determine their condition, remove decay from teeth, fill cavities, straighten teeth and repair chipped or fractured teeth.
When needed FVH Dentists will extract diseased teeth and replace missing teeth with dentures. They also perform corrective surgery on gums and supporting bones to treat gum diseases. Dentists are also qualified to administer anaesthesia and to prescribe medication for dental related conditions.
FVH Dentists provide instruction to patients on diet, teeth care (brushing, flossing, the use of fluorides) and other aspects of dental care.
Treatments
In addition to General Dentistry, the FV Hospital Dental team provides several other important treatment specialties, these include:
- Dental check-up - including physical check for cavities, decay, gum retraction and inflammation, x-ray if needed and dental cleaning. A regular check-up every six months is recommended to ensure proper dental hygiene.
- Teeth whitening – A simple procedure which removes discolouring and staining returning teeth to a healthy white. The treatment is painless and the results are very impressive. The FVH Dentist begins by thoroughly cleaning teeth, removing all plaques, tar etc. A bleaching gel in a fitted tray (similar to a sports mouth guard) is then placed around the teeth and left in position in your mouth for one hour. Two sessions are needed for optimal results. The procedure is recommended once a year.
- Implant – A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into the jaw to hold a replacement tooth. Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. Implant procedures are conducted under the supervision of the FVH Maxillo-facial & Oral surgeon. The dental implants are inserted after the FVH Dental team has assessed the jaw bone quality/condition and, if necessary, after a bone graft (a simple surgical procedure that can be performed only by a maxillo-facial surgeon, not by a dentist). FVH use pure titanium plugs to secure the implant tooth in place.
- Endodontics – root canal therapy (removing the nerves of teeth).
- Maxillofacial & Oral – the examination, diagnosis and treatment of disease and conditions of the teeth, gums and bones forming the oral cavity which can be improved, or corrected surgically.
- Orthodontics – the straightening of teeth.
- Paedodontics – dentistry for children.
- Geriodontics – dentistry for older patients, diseases and dental problems relating to aging.
- Periodontics – the treatment of gum disease.
