"Children Of Vietnam" Charitable Fund
Light our love for life.
After several years of planning, the “Children of Vietnam” Charitable Fund was formally launched on June 10th this year. The fund was founded by the prestigious newspaper Thanh Nien and FV Hospital, along with Dr. Duong Quang Trung, academic and former Director of HCMC Department of Health
The fund is a non-profit organization, independently run and completely transparent as required by Vietnamese law. All donations will be used to fund treatment for disadvantaged children, especially those suffering the after-effects of war.
According to World Health Organization statistics, the disabled account for 8 to 10% of Vietnam’s population, meaning about 7-8 million people, including children. However, the number of children who enjoy full health care services is limited, to only about 1 to 3%. By providing treatment for those children, the fund hopes to help them overcome their disabilities, integrate into the community, realize their dreams and contribute to society.
Pain still haunts these unfortunate children. They suffer as all poor and disabled children needing help do. Come with us on our journey to help Vietnam’s underprivileged children.

Heart Disease Treatment – A Growing Demand
Even the World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern about the increasing rate of heart disease in Vietnam. Heart disease, related to or resulting from obesity, senility, sedentariness, smoking, diabetes, and stress, has been listed as a “modern disease,” threatening almost everyone.  |
Treatment of heart disease in Vietnam at international standards.
Rates of heart disease are increasing much faster compared to the previous decades. According to the latest report from the Vietnam Cardiology Association, about 16.3% of the northern population has heart disease. However, patients can be comfortable knowing that this “modern disease” can be treated at the cardiology departments of some of Vietnam’s prestigious hospitals. At Franco-Vietnamese Hospital, there are many types of diagnostic tests and treatments such as ECG (electrocardiography), echocardiography, treadmill ergometric test, ambulatory ECG Holter monitor, ambulatory blood pressure Holter monitor, myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, cardioelectrophysiology, pace maker, etc. In addition, FV Hospital is equipped with intensive care units for hospitalized patients. These units are available to respond to the needs of patients who have suffered a heart attack, heart failure or stroke.
International cooperation to improve quality
There has been a remarkable growth of cardiology hospitals in the past few years, as demand for heart operations remains high. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, about 9,000 patients await required heart operations.
To help, FV Hospital signed an MOU – a cooperative agreement - with Singapore’s National Heart Center for treatment of heart disease. NHC is one of Asia’s most modern hospitals, boasting many talented and experienced cardiologists and heart surgeons. It has carried out many procedures on coronary arteries for Singaporeans and patients across Asia.
In addition to existing exploratory and testing services, FV Hospital can now take on difficult cases like cardiac valve operation, congenital heart disease, modern methods in clinical treatment of heart disease, and heart/lung transplant, and can also facilitate patient transfer to NHC for further treatment.
Since the cooperative efforts began, cardiologists and experts from NHC make monthly visits to FV Hospital to diagnose, consult and treat. If the patient requires surgery, FV Hospital will complete all the formalities so that the patient can go to Singapore for the procedure. Only a short stay is required in NHC and recovery is done at FV Hospital, in order to cut costs for patients and their families.
Now patients of heart disease can be confident in the quality of treatment at local hospitals, especially as they cooperate with foreign institutions. Besides giving patients choices of healthcare facilities, the cooperation also helps improve the treatment and service quality, in accordance with the same quality standards as those of the US and Europe, but at more reasonable costs.

Organized by FV Hospital and HCMC Television at Ben Thanh Theater on June 26th, 2006. Admission was free and the seminar attracted a large audience.
The eyes are valuable organs requiring good care and protection. Some common diseases can cause harm to the eyes, sometimes even leading to blindness. In order to increase public awareness in eye-related issues, FV Hospital and the Singapore National Eye Center organized the seminar “Influence of diabetes and hypertension on the eyes” on April 22nd at Ben Thanh Theater in District 1. Doctors from both FV Hospital and SNEC also carried out eye examinations from April 24th to 26th, attracting about 300 people. Patients were diagnosed comprehensively, having their refraction measured and their eyes tested with bio-microscopic equipment. They were given eye-drops to dilate the pupils so doctors could examine the eye ground. They were also given information on other diseases that could affect the eyes.
