Alongside the joy and excitement of preparing to welcome a new baby, many families have questions about pregnancy care: When is advanced fetal monitoring needed? How can blood sugar levels be managed during pregnancy and after birth? These important topics were discussed at FV Hospital’s “Afternoon Tea with Doctors” event in late August 2026, attended by around 100 expectant mothers and their families.

Opening the session, Dr Vo Thi Thanh Van, MSc, FV Thomson Maternity, shared practical advice on monitoring a baby’s health and development throughout pregnancy. From monitoring baby movements at home from around the 28th week of pregnancy to routine ultrasounds and specialised monitoring when needed, the session helped families better understand important signs to look out for during pregnancy.

Dr Van emphasised: “It is important for expectant mothers to understand their baby’s usual movements and recognise any changes. If you notice anything unusual, please visit the hospital promptly for a check-up and advice from our specialists.”

Continuing the session, Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD, Head of the Endocrinology Unit, FV Hospital, spoke about How can you manage your blood sugar levels during pregnancy and after birth?

Dr Nam offered practical advice on lifestyle and dietary adjustments, including limiting sugary drinks and sweet treats, eating more green vegetables, choosing suitable foods, engaging in light physical activity after meals when appropriate and monitoring blood sugar levels at home according to medical advice.

The atmosphere grew livelier during the Q&A session. Expectant mothers actively asked questions, shared their concerns and received thoughtful advice from both speakers. The open exchange gave families an opportunity to discuss their questions and concerns, making the journey into motherhood a more reassuring experience.

Families also toured the FV Thomson Maternity, where they learned more about the birthing process at FV, viewed the delivery suites and visited the postnatal inpatient area. The tour gave families a clearer picture of the care environment and what to expect during their delivery journey at FV.

The afternoon tea concluded with warm smiles, cheerful laughter and appreciation gifts from FV as a small token of thanks and best wishes to all the families who attended.

This September, “Afternoon Tea with Doctors” returns with the topic “Do’s and Don’ts During Pregnancy”, featuring:
