FV HOSPITAL CME MEDICAL SYMPOSIUM: DIABETES – MULTIDIMENSIONAL MANAGEMENT JOURNEY: FROM PREVENTION TO COMPLICATIONS TREATMENT

Diabetes has become one of the most significant healthcare challenges of the 21st century. More than just a chronic metabolic disorder, it carries a silent threat of a wide range of serious complications, including:

  • Cardiovascular complications – the leading cause of mortality among people with diabetes.
  • Renal impairment, progressing to end-stage chronic kidney disease.
  • Peripheral neuropathy and diabetic foot syndrome, potentially leading to limb amputation.
  • Diabetic retinopathy, a major cause of vision loss and even blindness.
  • Complex metabolic disturbances that significantly impair both the physical and mental well-being of patients.

In intensive care units (ICUs), glycaemic control remains one of the most demanding clinical challenges, where the margin between dangerous hypoglycaemia and complication-inducing hyperglycaemia is extremely narrow.

In pregnant women, gestational diabetes affects not only maternal health but also carries long-term implications for the growth and metabolic risks of the next generation. Separately, in patients with long-standing diabetes, osteoporosis is emerging as a newly recognised complication—a silent yet debilitating condition that increases fracture risk and significantly reduces quality of life.

For these reasons, effective diabetes management must extend beyond stabilising blood glucose levels. It requires a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and individualised approach for every patient.

To mark World Diabetes Day, FV Hospital is organising a Continuing Medical Education (CME) symposium entitled: “Diabetes – Multidimensional Management Journey: From Prevention to Complications Treatment”, featuring the following programme:

  • Time: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM, 6 December 2025
