Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in Vietnam and worldwide, and the number of new cases in Vietnam, particularly in urban areas, is on the rise. Already the wealthier lifestyle experienced in Vietnam has led to a surge in cardiovascular conditions.
Contributing factors, such as less active, more sedentary leisure time and less healthy dietary choices, if unchecked, lead to hypertension and heart attacks. Tobacco usage – which continues to rise – is the largest contributing factor to cardiovascular complications in Vietnam. Aiming to allow patients with congenital or chronic cardiac diseases to live a normal life, FV established a state-of-the-art Cardiology Department equipped with advanced equipment and facilities from the hospital’s inception.
FVH’s Cardiology Department is specialised in providing a comprehensive approach to advanced cardiac diagnosis, ranging from prevention and early detection to diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Soon FVH will set up an Interventional Catheterisation Laboratory to diagnose, assess and implement interventional procedures for coronary artery problems. The establishment of this new laboratory will help to bring comprehensive healthcare services at FVH a step closer to perfection.
FVH stands ready to respond to victims of cardiovascular emergencies such as angina, heart attack and heart failure. Our 24-hour Accident & Emergency Department is staffed with trained cardiologists and intensive care specialists. FV’s two French-manufactured, international standard mobile ICU ambulances provide complete management of cardiovascular emergencies and diseases, including fibrinolysis, whether on-site or during transport to the hospital. Medical response is comprehensive, safe and fast.
FV Hospital’s Cardiology Department provides 24-hour service for patients suffering from angina, heart attacks and other acute cardiovascular conditions, particularly arrhythmias and conduction problems. In collaboration with the Interventional Catheterisation Department of the Medicine and Pharmacy University Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, FV Hospital specialists perform all types of interventional procedures including coronarography, angioplasty (PTCA), stenting and electrophysiology studies with ablations.
FVH Cardiology can perform arrhythmia studies to diagnose and to treat electrical abnormalities of the heart, including supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias. We also perform surgical procedures for the implantation of the latest generation pacemakers.
Rehabilitation, Prevention and Individual Counselling
FVH Cardiology maintains a medically supervised cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programme for patients with high cardiovascular risk and for those having interventional or surgical procedures. This programme includes individual counselling on diet and nutrition, exercise and lifestyle choices, all of which can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. All counselling is conducted under the direction of the cardiology team.
Nuclear Cardiology uses a full array of cardiac protocols to produce precise cardiac diagnoses, including the use of sophisticated nuclear technology, e.g. the dual-head, variable angle SPECT gamma camera.
Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
A timely and accurate diagnosis is critical for the effective treatment of heart and cardiovascular disease. FVH provides a high quality intensive care service with the first modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Vietnam. All patients are centrally monitored through our latest generation cardiac monitoring system, ventilators, pumps, and an entire range of top quality medical equipment and supplies. Our ICU department is staffed 24 hours a day to monitor and administer care to patients, even to the most severe cases.
Consultation & Non-Invasive Diagnostic Centre
Our purpose-designed Consultation Centre includes comfortable private physician consultation rooms, a patient education facility and a complete non-invasive testing centre. As an advanced heart centre, we perform a wide range of investigations and tests, such as:
- Echocardiography (Adult and Paediatric Colour Doppler Ultrasound)
- Multiplane Transesophageal Echocardiography
- Marquette Stress testing by Treadmill or Ergometer
- 24-hour Holter ECG
- 24-hour Blood Pressure Monitoring (MAPA)
The Non-Invasive Centre is supported by our extensive Imaging Department, which includes a CT Scanner, Angiography machines and other advanced equipment.
- Echocardiography – GE Vivid 3 (adult and paediatric doppler colour ultrasound) with two functions:
- Function #1 TTE (Trans-thoracic Echocardiography) – A non-invasive technique to evaluate the dynamic between cardiac structure and the intra cardiac flow.
- Function #2 TEE (Transoesophageal Echocardiography) – An invasive technique to better evaluate and define the fine cardiac structure.
- Marquette stress testing by Treadmill or Ergometer – a medium to diagnose coronary disease.
- HolterECG (electrocardiogram) – ECG for 24 hours of continuous monitoring.
- MAPA (24-hour Blood Pressure Monitor) – monitors hypertension.
- Interventional cardiology is carried out by FVH doctors in the FVH Catheterisation Laboratory using the most updated Philips DSA system.
