Following the November 2023 elections, 14 outstanding representatives were selected for the Medical Advisory Board (MAB) for the 2023 – 2025 term. Additionally, the Board appointed an additional representative, securing the 15th position to ensure a range of expertise and specialties in compliance with the Board requirements. Thus, the new MAB will consist of 15 members.

Established to ensure and maintain the highest provision of quality technical procedure, patient care, and adherence to medical ethics at FV Hospital, the MAB consists of advisors who aid the Board of Directors in shaping improved standards for patient care.
On the announcement and first meeting day (5th December 2023) of MAB members, all present members agreed on the nomination of Dr Basma M’Barek (Head of Hy Vong Cancer Centre) as the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board for the term 2023 – 2025. Dr Basma, who received the highest amount with 48% of the votes in the MAB election. This demonstrates influence, reputation, and the clinical team’s confidence in her ability to enhance and ensure treatment quality at FV.

Simultaneously, the positions following the election had a high competitive rate, with only a few votes separating them. Following on-site discussions and voting, all present members at the meeting approved the election of Dr Trinh Van Hai (Head of the Accident & Emergency Department) as the Vice Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board for the term.

At the announcement of the new Board, in his role as the former Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board for the 2021 – 2023 term, Dr Trinh Van Hai shared MAB’s difficulties, particularly those heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted challenging issues that the upcoming Board will need to address, such as the rights and responsibilities of board members and defining MAB’s role as the voice of doctors at FV. The new Medical Advisory Board has scheduled these pressing matters for discussion at its first meeting in January 2024.
According to regulations, the Medical Advisory Board will hold a meeting once a month to discuss, vote, and propose critical professional and medical administrative issues at the hospital. Medical Director – PhD.Dr Do Trong Khanh affirmed that this is the space for Board doctors, representing the clinical team, to provide influential opinions to the Board of Directors, proposing general development strategies for the hospital, engaging in discussions towards professional development, and effecting positive changes for their respective units.
Additionally, the Medical Advisory Board is involved in decisions about recruiting, appointing, and recommending medical staff policies. This involvement provides doctors with an additional information channel, allowing them to contribute their voices to build a robust medical team and enhancing staffing in necessary specialties.
