Financial support programme to help Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients access Tagrisso (Ostimertinib)

From June 5th, 2020, patients suffering from non-small cell lung cancer who are prescribed Tagrisso (Osimertinib) medication will be offered financial support for a follow-up drug cycle at Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre, FV Hospital. This support programme will be available to the patient after they have undergone a complete cycle of the drug and until they stop treatment as directed by the doctor or when they decide to stop participating in the programme.

Specifically, the financial support is partial support for the cost of Tagrisso (Osimertinib) for patients who have locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer with positive metastases with positive EGFR/EGFR T790M. This policy was approved by the Ministry of Health on April 17th, 2020 and has been applied to a small number of hospitals in Vietnam, including the Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre.

Tagrisso contributes to the effectiveness of treatment, helping patients live longer

Tagrisso (Osimertinib) is a new generation drug from the manufacturer AstraZeneca AB, from Sweden. The product has been licensed for circulation in the US since 2015, and in Vietnam since 2018. It is currently being distributed by the Central Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company 2 (Phytopharma).

The Tagrisso drug comes in the form of film-coated tablets, in a packet of three blisters, each with 10 tablets. Depending on the doctor’s prescription, patients may be given a dose of either 40mg or 80mg. Tagrisso has been identified by experts as a targeted drug for patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer with certain types of abnormal EGFR genes or EGFR T790M-positive.

From clinical studies, patients with non-small cell lung cancer using Tagrisso have a better life expectancy with improved disease-free progression than those using other targeted therapies or chemotherapy drugs.
