FV Hospital Celebrating ‘World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week 2023’

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is emerging as a major threat to global health and global development. Addressing this complex problem requires intervention and support from multiple sectors to achieve goals effectively and sustainably.

Continuing our  collaboration with thousands of healthcare providers worldwide, FV Hospital will organise “World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week 2023” from 20th – 24th November, featuring various informative activities. This year, the World Health Organization (WHO) continues to emphasise the urgency of the issue, maintaining the event slogan Preventing antimicrobial resistance together”.

To gain a better understanding of antimicrobial resistance and how everyone can contribute to its reduction, you can participate in the activities during the event week at FV. Additionally, throughout the event week, FV encourages everyone to wear bright blue outfits (the main colour of the event) as a small action in response to the event!

The WHO has identified “Antimicrobial resistance” as one of the 10 health threats to humanity. Misuse of antibiotics in terms of dose or without a doctor’s prescription for treatment, along with the overuse of antibiotics in livestock, agriculture, etc., are the primary factors contributing to antimicrobial resistance and intensifying this issue.

Moreover, challenges like limitations in environmental sanitation and deficiencies in infection prevention and control have facilitated the spread of bacteria, some of which are resistant to antibiotic therapy. In Vietnam and many other Asian countries, there’s an alarming rate of antibiotic resistance.

Despite numerous successes in modern medicine in recent years, progress in antimicrobial research has not been substantial. It exacerbates the problem of antimicrobial resistance, creating significant pressure for the treatment of infections. Furthermore, the economic consequences of drug resistance are substantial, leading to increased mortality and disability rates, longer hospital stays, more expensive drug treatment, and financial burdens for families.

FV Hospital hopes that the “World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week 2023” event will continue to raise awareness in the community, promoting participation, and encouraging action to prevent antimicrobial resistance in Vietnam. Please join FV in this pivotal battle of our era!
