FV Hospital Participates in a Medical Symposium on Ear-Nose-Throat Care and Treatment

The medical symposium “Updated Guidelines for Ear, Nose and Throat Care and Treatment 2022” was held from June 24 to 25, 2022, in Hue City. This programme was organised by the Association of Ear, Nose and Throat of Ho Chi Minh City & Southern provinces, in association with the Association of Ear, Nose and Throat of Thua Thien Hue Province.

Many leading Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) experts in Vietnam, as well as international experts, participated in the conference. Three speakers from FV Hospital presented: Vo Cong Minh, MD, PhD, Head of FV’s Ear, Nose and Throat Department; Dr Basma M’Barek, Head of Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre; and Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, MD, MSc, Head of the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics.

Dr Basma M’Barek, Head of Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre – FV Hospital, presents a seminar.

During session one of the symposium, Dr Basma M’Barek presented on “Adaptation and necessity of IMRT in the treatment of head and neck cancer”. The superiority of the IMRT method helps doctors direct the optimal radiation dose to the tumour while avoiding the risk of overdose on nearby organs, helping to minimise the side effects of radiation therapy. Currently, FV Hospital is using IMRT radiotherapy in routine practice, and FV’s statistics have also proven the effectiveness of this method.

Specialist Level II Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, MD, MSc, Head of FV’s Nutrition and Dietetics department, presents at the symposium

As part of the discussion session on methods to help actively treat naso-sinus diseases (Session 3), Specialist Level II Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, MD, MSc, presented on “Nutrition when caring for adults and children with COVID-19”. The respiratory system is one of the first organs affected by the SARS-COV-2 virus, and the nutrition supply models built by Dr Quynh Thu helps COVID-19 patients protect their health and stay as healthy as possible during treatment.

Vo Cong Minh, MD, PhD, Head of FV’s Ear, Nose and Throat Department, speaks at the event.

During his presentation at the fifth session of the symposium, Vo Cong Minh, MD, PhD, spoke on “Cephalosporins and upper respiratory infections: Present and future”. This presentation by Dr Cong Minh covered the latest research on how to optimise antibiotic strategies in the treatment of ENT infections. With the current situation of antibiotic resistance in Vietnam, this discussion session was well attended.

This medical symposium shared new knowledge and modern ENT treatment methods. In the future, FV Hospital will actively participate in scientific research and medical forums to continue to support and develop modern medicine in Vietnam, ensuring that patients receive the best care possible.
