Healthy living with FV conference: Effective treatment for spinal pain, spinal degeneration and herniated lumbar discs.

Approximately 75 per cent of Vietnam’s population is affected by spinal and lumber pain, which is the second most common reason for absence from work after flu.

This figure was key to the public seminar EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS FOR SPINAL PAIN, SPINAL DEGENERATION AND HERNIATED LUMBAR DISCS held by FV Hospital at Norfork Hotel, District 1, HCMC, on Saturday, 22nd March 2014.

The seminar was attended by over 150 people. The two key speakers at this conference were Dr. Jacques Bontemps, a specialist in the field of back problems from France, and Dr. Thai Thi Hoa, Head of FV Pain Clinic. Attendees raised many interesting questions and received helpful, life-changing answers from these two doctors.

According to Dr. Jacques Bontemps, who is an expert in pain treatment, there are many causes of spinal pain, including aging, being overweight, a lack of exercise, improper sitting posture and heavy lifting. Spinal pain can lead to severe complications such as spinal stenosis and herniated lumbar discs. Therefore, patients with spinal or lumber pain must be diagnosed as early as possible so that they can receive immediate treatment.

Dr. Jacques Bontemps and Dr. Hoa also gave a demonstration of advanced pain treatments provided at FV Pain Clinic, including:

  • Physical therapy
  • Medication
  • Injection techniques: epidural injection, nerve root injection
  • High radiofrequency
  • Surgery

Although the seminar had lasted longer than scheduled, the doctors still received many questions from the attendees well after the seminar was supposed to end. This demonstrated that there is still a great need to understand as well as receive treatment for spinal pain among patients and local people.
