Mar 2014 healthy living with FV public seminar: Gastrointestinal diseases and gastrointestinal cancers

Medical sector reports show that nearly 10 per cent of Vietnam’s population is affected with gastrointestinal diseases. Mild problems suffered include digestive disorders, constipation, gastro-oesophageal reflux, flatulence and dyspepsia. More severe problems range from gastric ulcers with bloody vomit and bowel movements to gastric cancer, oesophaegal cancer, colorectal cancer, chronic hepatitis and pancreatitis with complications of hepatobiliary cancer and pancreatic cancer.

The incidence of gastrointestinal diseases and cancers is increasing at an alarming rate.

To disseminate information on the prevention of and screening for gastrointestinal disease, FV Hospital held a public conference themed “GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASES AND GASTROINTESTINAL CANCERS: Early screening, precise diagnosis, thorough surgery and comprehensive treatment”at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, 1st March 2014 at Continental Hotel, 132-134 Dong Khoi Street, District 1, HCMC.

This conference was attended by nearly 100 people. The two key speakers at this seminar were Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Son, Head of FVH’s Hepato-Gastroenterology Department, and Dr. Pierre-Joseph Dumas, MD, PhD, an expert with over 40 years of experience and profound medical knowledge in the field of thoracic, vascular and gastroenterology surgery.

Their presentation explored the early detection of gastrointestinal problems and the importance of interdisciplinary consultation in gastrointestinal disease treatment, endoscopic surgery of gastrointestinal diseases, and the possibility of complete treatment for gastrointestinal problems.

Moreover, the two doctors also gave a demonstration of positive progressions and outcomes, as well as new advanced treatments for gastrointestinal diseases such as pancreatic cancer, oesophageal tumours and gastric tumours.

After each presentation, the doctors received many interesting questions from attendees, even though the seminar had lasted longer than scheduled. This demonstrated that there is still a great need to understand as well as receive consultation and treatment for these problems among local people.
