Tips to help You take care of Your Heart

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), approximately 200,000 people die from cardiovascular disease in Vietnam every year. This figure is higher than cancer, accidents, and infections. For many, heart disease is known as a condition that mainly affects the elderly, however, recently cardiovascular diseases are affecting more and more younger people. This is due to a rise in unhealthy living habits which include smoking, drinking alcohol, eating fatty food, and not exercising enough regularly.

To help combat this condition below is a list of tips from FV to help ensure a healthy heart and blood vessels:

  • – Eat more vegetables, fruits, fish and limit fat intake. When cooking, reduce the amount of MSG, seasoning and salt.
  • – Quit smoking, avoid smoke-heavy environments and limit the intake of alcohol.
  • – Be active, whether through sports, yoga, or other exercise – It is a great stress reliever.
  • – Measure blood pressure regularly. If you are over 30 years old and do not have a history of high blood pressure, it is advised to have this measured once a month. In cases of high blood pressure, it is best to measure daily and as directed by a doctor.

In addition to these simple tips, it is also highly recommended to have a cardiovascular screening every year. FV’s Cardiology Department is fully prepared to detect and treat all types of cardiovascular diseases early. This is possible thanks to the Department’s modern technology, such as advanced imaging system – MSCT, echocardiography, Marquette stress testing, and cardiovascular Intervention Catheterisation Laboratory system (Cathlab), coupled with its team of highly qualified medical doctors. Furthermore, patients will also be consulted by experts about the best diet to benefit their heart, maintain their health and improve their quality of life.
