Applying MolecuLight imaging technology: Advancing care for diabetic wounds

August 21, 2026

On 8 July 2026, the FV Wednesday session featured two practical clinical topics: Diabetic foot management and The application of innovative technology in wound care.

Opening the session, Dr Truong Hoang Vinh Khiem presented “Diabetic foot complications: Current management and advanced therapies.”
To deliver effective treatment, FV Hospital adopts a multidisciplinary approach supported by advanced techniques such as Vacuum-Assisted Closure (V.A.C.®) therapy, skin grafting procedures, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. Dr Khiem also emphasised that daily inspection of patients’ footwear is essential, as properly fitting footwear plays a crucial role in preventing and managing foot ulcers. He further stressed that patients should receive appropriate guidance on foot care at home and attend regular follow-up appointments. As Dr Khiem noted, “When it comes to protecting diabetic feet, prevention is always better than cure.”
Dr Duong Bich Thuy, PhD, introduced MolecuLight, a point-of-care fluorescence imaging technology used to detect elevated bacterial loads in wounds at the point of care.
Dr Thuy explained: “This device helps doctors identify the precise areas that require cleaning or debridement, monitor treatment response in real time, and support appropriate antibiotic prescribing.” As a result, the management of hard-to-heal wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers, burns, and pressure injuries, becomes more precise and effective while helping reduce unnecessary antibiotic use and improve patient outcomes.

WHAT IS FV WEDNESDAY?

FV Wednesday is a regular session series held two to three times a month on Wednesdays. It offers a collaborative space for doctors to meet, share insights, and learn from one another. By discussing complex clinical cases and advanced techniques, the programme helps maintain JCI international-standard healthcare quality in Vietnam.
