Lung Cancer Screening
Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of death.
The American Cancer Society recommends annual lung cancer screening with a low-dose CT scan for apparently healthy patients aged 55 to 80 years who have at least a 20–pack‐year smoking history (who have smoked at least one pack of cigarettes per day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years) and who currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years.
FV Hospital offers a low-dose CT scan lung cancer screening programme:
-
If results are negative, annual repeat screening is recommended.
-
If results are abnormal, a consultation with a Pulmonologist is recommended.
This programme applies to
- Healthy patients aged 50 to 80 with at least a 20 pack-year smoking history, who currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years.
- Individuals exposed to harmful substances or environmental pollution, including cigarette smoke, asbestos, radon, arsenic, radiation, and other toxic chemicals.
