Towards an Antimicrobial-Free Future

FV Hospital has successfully concluded its 2025 World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW), reinforcing the key message “Protect Our Present: Secure an Antimicrobial-Free Future.”

Held from 17 to 21 November 2025, the event attracted strong interest from patients, families, FV staff, and the wider community. At the opening ceremony, Mr Mohd Fazli Shuib, Director of Quality and Risk Management and Head of Pharmacy, emphasised: “Preventing antimicrobial resistance is a shared responsibility. Every responsible action we take today is a meaningful step forward in combating AMR in Vietnam and around the world.”

Mr Fazli highlighted: “Preventing antimicrobial resistance is everyone’s shared responsibility.”

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is now recognised as one of the most serious global health threats, making many infectious diseases increasingly difficult to treat. The emergence of drug-resistant bacteria drives up treatment costs, prolongs hospital stays, and increases the risk of death. At the heart of this growing crisis is the widespread misuse and overuse of antibiotics in the community.

In response to WAAW 2025, FV Hospital organised a series of activities to raise awareness among both staff and the wider community about the responsible use of antibiotics. The campaign included mobile-booth quiz games, expert discussion sessions, social media avatar updates, and other interactive initiatives. Many patients and caregivers took part, creating an engaging atmosphere and helping to further spread the message.

The highlight of the week was the WAAW TALK Expert Seminar, where distinguished speakers shared the latest updates on antibiotic stewardship and infection prevention. Presentations covered FV’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme as well as new guidelines from leading pharmaceutical partners. The session further strengthened FV’s clinical expertise and reinforced a multidisciplinary approach in the fight against AMR.

The hospital also invests in advanced diagnostic systems capable of rapidly identifying pathogens, enabling highly effective, personalised treatment plans while minimising unnecessary antibiotic use.

In the ongoing battle against AMR, FV emphasises the importance of safe medication practices, accurate identification of infectious agents, and rigorous antibiotic stewardship. The hospital also underscores the essential role of preventive measures, including vaccination for both children and adults, in reducing the risk of infection.
