FV Hospital updates its advanced wound closure technologies, improving treatment outcomes and infection control

On 1 July 2026, FV Hospital organised an intensive training programme “Advanced Wound Closure and Infection Control” for its surgeons, nurses and clinical staff. The programme provided the latest updates on advanced wound care solutions currently used around the world.

International expert shares the latest advances in wound management

The training session was led by Dr Moris Topaz, PhD, an Israeli specialist in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. He served as Head of Plastic Surgery at Hillel Yaffe Medical Centre for 26 years and is currently Academic Director of the Continuing Medical Education Programme in Asia.

During the programme, Dr Moris Topaz, PhD, introduced two innovative wound management solutions that he researched and developed himself, both of which are used in the treatment of complex wounds:

TopClosure (TopClosure Tension Relief System – TRS): A tension relief system that helps close large or difficult-to-close wounds by utilising the skin’s natural elasticity. This solution can reduce the need for skin grafts or flaps in many cases, while helping to improve treatment outcomes.

Vcare α: A device that combines negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) with local antibiotic instillation and oxygen irrigation (ROI-NPT). This technology helps control infection directly at the wound site, promotes healing and may reduce the need for systemic antibiotics in appropriate cases.

Training from knowledge to clinical practice

In addition to providing professional knowledge, the programme placed strong emphasis on practical application in clinical practice. Through simulation videos, real case studies, and live demonstrations on the equipment, Dr Moris Topaz, PhD, analysed how to select the most appropriate treatment for each type of wound, while sharing his experience in managing complex wounds.

One of the programme’s highlights was the presentation of a case involving a young patient with a large wound who achieved a positive recovery after approximately six weeks of treatment using the new technologies. In addition, the expert introduced the use of the TopClosure system in reconstructive and plastic surgery. He also explained the operating principles and safety features of the Vcare α device, including its ability to detect and alert clinicians to active bleeding.

Following the presentation, FV doctors and nurses actively engaged with the expert to discuss treatment indications, clinical experiences, and the feasibility of applying these methods in Vietnam. The programme continued with a hands-on session, where participants assembled the equipment themselves and operated the system under the guidance of Dr Moris Topaz, PhD.

Continuously updating technology for patient benefit

Speaking after the event, Ms Hoang Thi Hai Van, Head Nurse of Surgical West Ward at FV Hospital, praised the practicality of the training:

“The training was very well structured and delivered by the expert. The new materials and devices are highly visual and easy for both doctors and nurses to understand and use, while providing effective support for daily wound care.”

According to Ms Hai Van, introducing technologies such as TopClosure and Vcare α will provide clinicians with additional treatment options for managing complex wounds. This contributes to faster healing, lower infection risks, shorter hospital stays, and more cost-effective care for patients.

Regular professional training enables FV Hospital’s clinical teams to continuously enhance their expertise and deliver the best possible care for patients (Source: FV) The programme concluded with a practical hands-on session and a discussion between the expert and the FV Hospital medical team. This is one of the hospital’s regular professional training activities aimed at keeping up to date with advances in modern medicine, enhancing the professional capacity of the medical team, and progressively bringing safe, effective treatment solutions to patients in line with international standards.
