3.0 Tesla MRI system at FV: Advanced diagnostics, a more comfortable experience

FV Hospital continues to enhance the quality of its screening and routine healthcare services by introducing the state-of-the-art Philips Ingenia Elition X 3.0 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system. This advanced technology not only helps reduce patient waiting times but also delivers exceptionally clear, high-resolution medical images.

The addition of this new system underscores FV’s ongoing commitment to improving clinical workflows and the overall quality of diagnostic services. Patients can now undergo MRI examinations more quickly and comfortably.

A vital asset for medical specialists

The Philips Ingenia Elition X 3.0 Tesla MRI system provides highly detailed images, supporting the diagnosis of conditions affecting the brain, heart, spine, musculoskeletal system and various cancers. Thanks to Compressed SENSE technology, MRI scan times are reduced by up to 50%, while image resolution improves by up to 60%. For example, instead of lying still for nearly 30 minutes during a complex musculoskeletal examination, patients may complete the scan in around half the time, while doctors still receive highly detailed images of ligaments, cartilage and other joint structures. This is particularly beneficial for older patients and those experiencing pain who may find it difficult to remain still for extended periods.

For complex brain conditions, the system’s high-resolution imaging provides valuable diagnostic information. In neurological imaging, 3D APT (Amide Proton Transfer) technology enables the assessment of brain tissue protein concentrations, helping doctors distinguish between low-grade and high-grade tumours. This advanced capability serves as a vital foundation for improving the accuracy and effectiveness of stroke screening at FV.

Stroke screening and neurological diagnosis are key strengths of the new MRI system.

Beyond neurological imaging, the Philips Ingenia Elition X 3.0 Tesla MRI system also represents a significant advance in cardiovascular imaging. It enables detailed assessment of cardiac structure and function, supporting the diagnosis of heart failure, cardiomyopathies and congenital heart disease. The system can also detect conditions such as myocardial ischaemia and myocarditis at an early stage. By capturing sharp images even while the heart is continuously contracting, this device is key to elevating the quality of FV’s advanced cardiovascular screenings.(*)

The system also supports the diagnosis of vascular diseases. VitalScreen technology enables physiological signals to be captured directly through the system interface, allowing the clinical team to prepare patients more efficiently, monitor the cardiovascular system, and perform scans at the optimal time.

Combined with the advanced analysis tools available on the IntelliSpace Portal platform, doctors can comprehensively assess vascular abnormalities. Together, these technologies improve the accuracy and efficiency of advanced cardiovascular imaging.

IntelliSpace Portal offers more than 70 diagnostic applications for a wide range of complex conditions.

Radiographers also benefit from a standardised workflow through SmartExam software, which automatically plans imaging protocols to ensure consistent examinations for every patient. The clinical team can monitor scan progress via an interactive display mounted inside the scanner bore, reducing unnecessary movement during the examination. This streamlined workflow improves efficiency and helps patients receive faster, more accurate diagnostic results.

Designed around patient comfort

From the moment patients enter the MRI suite, they are welcomed into a spacious environment featuring a ceiling display of blue skies and green tree canopies. During preparation or lower-body examinations, such as knee, ankle or pelvic scans, patients can look up at this calming scene, helping them feel more relaxed throughout the procedure. Combined with the scanner’s modern design, this environment helps reduce feelings of confinement.

The inner surface of the Ingenia Elition X scanner bore is fitted with a Comfort Plus mattress, helping patients remain comfortable throughout the examination. ComforTone technology further enhances the experience by reducing scanner noise by up to 80%, creating a quieter and more reassuring environment.

The scanner reduces noise by 80% and a beautifully designed space for a more comfortable MRI experience.

Patient comfort is further improved by the AutoVoice feature, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver breathing instructions that are synchronised with each patient’s breathing pattern. This is particularly beneficial during examinations of organs affected by breathing, including cardiovascular and abdominal MRI scans of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas and kidneys. The experience is further enhanced by the VitalEye touchless optical sensor, which continuously monitors breathing without the need for traditional respiratory straps.

Speaking about this latest service upgrade, Dr Pham Dinh Khuong, Specialist Level I (Acting Head of the Imaging Department at FV Hospital) said: “We understand that patient comfort plays a vital role in obtaining high-quality diagnostic images. Investing in this new MRI system not only enables our medical team to work more efficiently but also helps patients feel reassured, relaxed and well cared for throughout their examination.”

By continuously investing in advanced diagnostic technology, FV Hospital continues to raise the standard of healthcare it provides. With the addition of the new-generation 3.0 Tesla MRI system, FV reaffirms its commitment to delivering high-quality diagnostic services that combine clinical excellence with compassionate, patient-centred care.
