FV Hospital is delighted to welcome Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD as the new Head of Endocrinology Unit. Dr Nam will work with the FV team to develop advanced, patient-centred treatment programmes based on the principles of Evidence-Based Medicine.
From a top six residency candidate to a PhD graduate from a world’s top 500 university
As one of the top six performers in the Residency entrance examination at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City, Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam had many options. However, he chose to specialise in endocrinology, a field he has been passionate about since his early clinical years and wanted to pursue long-term.
After completing his Residency and Specialist Level I Training Programme at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City, Dr Nam earned his PhD in Endocrinology from Taipei Medical University (Taiwan), ranked among the world’s top 500 universities in the QS World University Rankings.
Upon returning to Vietnam, he decided to focus on endocrinology to help patients manage chronic endocrine conditions. Behind this decision was a very simple, personal motivation: to have the medical knowledge to look after his parents and loved ones as they enter middle age.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD, is an active researcher who has published widely in international journals covering endocrinology and metabolism. Notably, his study on precocious puberty trends before and during the COVID-19 pandemic (Difference in Precocious Puberty between Pre-COVID-19 and COVID-19 Periods: A Meta-analysis) was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology (2025). He has also published studies on diabetes, precocious puberty, obesity, and gut microbiota in prestigious journals such as Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, Life Sciences, Metabolism, Nutrition Reviews, and Frontiers in Endocrinology.
Treating endocrine disorders means more than managing test results
Throughout his career, Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD has always practised evidence-based medicine. He believes that every clinical decision should be based on the latest scientific evidence, combined with clinical experience and each patient’s individual circumstances, to ensure the best and safest outcomes.

Dr Nam strongly advocates for holistic patient management when dealing with chronic conditions like diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disorders. Treatment extends far beyond prescribing medication; it requires a long-term care plan with regular screenings for complications affecting the eyes, heart, kidneys, nerves and bones to enable early detection and timely intervention.
“A patient with diabetes might have well-controlled blood sugar, but without regular screenings for complications, they still face serious risks. Our ultimate goal should always be comprehensive, holistic care,” Dr Nam shares.
Partnering with FV to develop the Endocrinology Unit into a specialised centre of excellence
Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD explains that his decision to join FV Hospital is rooted in a shared vision. The multi-specialty hospital model and extensive resources at FV Hospital provide an ideal environment to deliver comprehensive endocrine care, bringing together multiple specialties to improve patient treatment outcomes and quality of life.

Under the leadership of Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD, the Endocrinology Unit will continue to expand its specialised services, including:
- Management and treatment of diabetes, prediabetes, and metabolic disorders.
- Obesity management and weight control.
- Treatment of thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal gland disorders.
- Paediatric endocrinology: precocious puberty, growth delay, and other childhood endocrine disorders.
- Obstetric and gynaecological endocrinology: gestational diabetes, thyroid disorders during pregnancy, and endocrine-metabolic disorders in perimenopausal and menopausal women.
Looking ahead, Dr Nam hopes to work with the FV Hospital team to develop a highly specialised, multidisciplinary diabetes and weight management centre to meet the growing needs of our patients.
