Palliative care is an integral part of comprehensive care for patients with severe illnesses. It aims to identify and alleviate the pain and suffering they endure — not only physically, but also addressing surrounding issues — in order to maximise the quality of life for the patient.

To enhance the expertise and skills of doctors and healthcare professionals in palliative care, FV Hospital organised a CME training program titled “PALLIATIVE CARE AND HOMECARE: Experience from Japan to Viet Nam”. This program featured leading specialists in oncology, palliative care, and pain management sharing advanced treatment methods and experiences from Japan and Vietnam.

Dr Vu Truong Son

Speaker Information

Dr Vu Truong Son graduated from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2007 and taught there for two years. He earned his Master's degree in Tropical Diseases and International Health at the Institute of Francophone Tropical Medicine (IFMT) in 2009. Dr Vu Truong Son began working at FV Hospital in 2013 and officially became the Head of the Infectious Disease Department in 2022. Since May 2023, he has been appointed Deputy Medical Director. Through his years at FV Hospital, Dr Son has garnered high trust from the Board of Directors and colleagues. He has contributed significantly to critical policies such as the Response to Global Infectious Diseases and Infection Control, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, he made numerous positive contributions to FV's Infection Control Unit and Infectious Diseases Department.

Dr Shuji Hiramoto

Speaker Information

Dr Shuji Hiramoto completed his medical degree at Osaka City University (1997–2003) and obtained an MBA from Kobe University (2019–2020). He is currently a doctoral research student at Shiga University of Medical Science. His post-graduate training includes residency at Rakuwakai Otowa Hospital and fellowship positions in gastroenterology, oncology, and palliative care at renowned institutions. Since February 2021, he has served as Clinic Director at Peace Home Care Clinic, and in November 2023 became Chairman of the Medical Corporation Heiwano-mori. Dr Hiramoto is a Fellow of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine and a Palliative Care Specialist. He has received the ESMO Integration of Oncology and Palliative Care award and the Best Presentation Award from the Japanese Society for Palliative Medicine.

Dr Basma M'Barek

Speaker Information

Dr Basma M'Barek graduated from Tunis El Manar University, Tunisia (2002), and the University of Paris VI (2003). She holds a Master's degree in Human Genetics from the University of Medicine, Tunisia, and has completed advanced training in Radiotherapy & Oncology, Psycho-oncology, Head and Neck Cancer, and new radiotherapy technologies. She has worked at prestigious hospitals in France, including Gustave Roussy Cancer Centre, University Hospital Saint Louis, and Le Raincy Montfermeil Hospital, and is a member of the European Society of Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology (ESTRO). Since August 2018, Dr Basma M'Barek has been serving as Head of the Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre at FV Hospital.

Dr Pham Hoang Manh

Speaker Information

Dr Pham Hoang Manh graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine in 2016 and attended advanced fellowships in Basic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University, 2021), Cancer Pain Relief Treatment by Imaging (Vietnam Military Medical Academy, 2021), Local Anaesthesia Under Ultrasound Guidance (Clinique Medipole Garonne, Toulouse, France, 2022), and Chronic Pain Management (Geneva, Switzerland, 2022). Prior to joining FV Hospital's Pain Clinic in November 2022, Dr Hoang Manh worked as a senior consultant in the Anaesthesiology Department at Cho Ray Hospital from 2016. He specialises in pain relief for musculoskeletal, joint, spine, neuropathic, and cancer-related pain using advanced methods including subcutaneous injection and nerve destruction via Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA).

Dr Nguyen Nam Binh

Speaker Information

Dr Nguyen Nam Binh graduated from Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University, Ho Chi Minh City in 2006 and received a Specialisation Degree in Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation in 2016. She is an expert with over 15 years of experience, continuously supplementing her skills through advanced training in anaesthesiology, echocardiography, and chronic pain management. Dr Nam Binh spent 13 years at the Department of Anaesthesia and Resuscitation, Tu Du Hospital (2007–2020), before joining FV Hospital's Pain Clinic in 2021. With dedication and dynamism, she has enhanced her skills through training courses in Europe (Switzerland, France) and actively participates in domestic and international scientific forums, sharing advanced pain treatment models with hospitals across the region.

Dr Nguyen Huynh Ha Thu

Speaker Information

Dr Nguyen Huynh Ha Thu is a clinical oncologist at Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre, FV Hospital, with special interest in modern radiotherapy techniques. She graduated from HCMC University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2016, completed advanced training in oncology as a residential doctor in 2019, and joined FV Hospital the same year. She has demonstrated great interest in implementing new techniques at FV Hospital, particularly VMAT, SBRT, and SRS techniques as well as brachytherapy. Dr Ha Thu has presented research works at several conferences including ESMO Asia and ESTRO Asia, and notably won the Best Presentation prize at the Asian Summit of New Technology in Radiotherapy in Australia in 2023.
