To raise community awareness and promote responsible action in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), FV Hospital once again joins thousands of healthcare organisations worldwide in celebrating World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) 2025.
This year’s event at FV Hospital runs from 17 to 21 November under the theme “Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.” As a key annual initiative, the campaign will feature expert talks and educational activities to raise awareness about AMR prevention and control.
Why is antimicrobial resistance becoming a serious threat?
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is increasingly recognised as a major global health threat. When pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial medicines, infections become difficult or sometimes impossible to treat. This leads to higher treatment costs, longer hospital stays, and an increased risk of mortality.
For this reason, healthcare facilities must strictly follow antibiotic safety and stewardship guidelines, while encouraging community cooperation in using antimicrobials appropriately and responsibly.
