The Shining Star for May 2026 has been awarded to Ms Nguyen Thi Ngoc Quyen, an Operating Theatre Nurse. This recognition is a heartfelt thank you to Ms Quyen, who has been part of FV Hospital’s journey since its earliest days.
Joining the FV family as a newly graduated nurse, Ms Quyen belongs to the hospital’s first generation of employees. In those early years, although she was excited by the hospital’s modern medical equipment, she also felt anxious and uncertain.
She spent her first five years working in the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD). Her meticulous understanding of every surgical instrument set provided a strong foundation for her subsequent 18-year career in the Operating Theatre.
Ms Quyen still remembers the night shifts when staffing was limited and only one scrub nurse worked alongside an international doctor. Language barriers, the pressure of maintaining a sterile environment, and the need for absolute precision presented significant challenges for a young nurse.
“I was afraid at the time, but what worried me most was not performing well and affecting patient care. After every shift, I actively sought advice from senior colleagues and learned each doctor’s working preferences so that I could prepare better the next time,” Ms Quyen shared.
From memorising the name of every instrument, she gradually developed a deep understanding of the function of each piece of equipment, ensuring she was prepared for any situation during surgery. Today, Ms Quyen is not only a highly experienced nurse but also a key member of the team trained to support robot-assisted surgery using the da Vinci Xi system, one of the most advanced surgical technologies available today.
When asked about the most memorable part of her career, she smiled warmly as she recalled her early days of learning to work alongside doctors. There are moments when a doctor simply extends a hand and she instinctively places the exact instrument required. This level of understanding has been built over many years of dedication and nurtured by FV’s fair, professional working environment.
Sharing the secret behind receiving the Shining Star award, Ms Quyen said humbly: “There is no special secret. Simply work with enthusiasm and dedication.” This simple philosophy has guided her throughout her 23 years at FV and continues to inspire generations of colleagues. The FV family warmly congratulates Ms Nguyen Thi Ngoc Quyen on receiving the May 2026 Shining Star title. We wish her continued passion for her profession as she continues to spread positive values to both colleagues and patients every day.
