Triumphant natural delivery: Mother overcomes unmedicated induced labour at FV Thomson Maternity

After a smooth first childbirth, Mrs Tran Hang expected a similar experience for her second delivery. However, intense induced labour contractions and complete resistance to anaesthesia required a change in approach. With her resilience and the dedicated support of the FV Thomson Maternity Department, she achieved a safe and joyful delivery.

Four years later: returning to FV for another natural birth

Each of Mrs Tran Hang’s journeys into motherhood has been unique. She and her husband chose FV Hospital again because they had positive experiences from her first delivery here four years ago. By choosing the Silver Package, they could upgrade to a large Family Room, so their eldest child could stay with them in a comfortable setting.

Despite living far away and managing her antenatal care remotely, Mrs Hang remained steadfast in her decision. What drew her back was FV Hospital’s complete respect for a mother’s personal birth preferences. She asked for a natural delivery with minimal episiotomy and immediate skin-to-skin bonding after birth. Dr Nguyen Duc Truong listened attentively and committed to supporting her throughout her birth plan.

Extreme challenges: Induced labour contractions coupled with anaesthesia failure

Childbirth can present unexpected complications. Unlike her first delivery, Mrs Hang experienced premature leakage of amniotic fluid, increasing the risk of infection for both mother and baby. The medical team promptly induced labour to ensure safety.

Induced labour contractions are often faster and more intense than natural ones. Two anaesthetic procedures were ineffective, requiring Mrs Hang to endure the full intensity of contractions without pain relief.

Surviving intense pain with the guidance of a dedicated care team

At the brink of physical exhaustion, Ms Hang relied on the clinical team’s expertise and Dr Nguyen Duc Truong’s steady support. His presence, encouragement, and clear breathing instructions helped guide her through the most challenging stages of labour.

Ms Hang’s husband recalled that they carefully considered several hospitals before settling on FV Thomson Maternity for their second child. Their final decision was shaped not only by the hospital’s excellent care, but by Dr Truong’s calm and reassuring presence, which made all the difference during delivery.

The collaboration between the medical staff and Ms Hang’s determination led to a positive outcome. The newborn’s healthy cry brought relief and joy to the family. Despite the challenging unmedicated induced labour, Ms Hang achieved a successful natural delivery and held her baby skin-to-skin immediately after birth.

“During my first delivery, I felt almost no pain and didn’t cry at all. This time, I felt every single contraction. When my baby cried and was placed on my chest, I burst into tears of pure happiness. I never thought I could overcome such intense pain, but it was an unforgettable experience filled with deep emotion,” Mrs Hang said.

A resort-style postnatal recovery in the Family Room

After her difficult delivery, Ms Hang spent several days resting and recovering with her family in the Family Room at FV Thomson Maternity Department. The room was even bigger and more modern than it had been during her last stay, giving the family of four plenty of privacy and comfort. With a sofa area and guest bed, her husband and eldest child could stay and support her and the new baby during their time in the hospital.

More than just the impressive facilities, it was the midwifery team’s heartfelt attentiveness that truly touched Ms Hang. Every time she needed help, the midwives responded swiftly and with genuine compassion. The overnight nursery care, in particular, gave the couple precious time to rest and recover after their emotional journey.

Reflecting on her second delivery, Ms Hang noted that FV Thomson Maternity Department provided total peace of mind through its seamless combination of professional clinical care, dedicated service, and a holistic postnatal experience for mother and baby.
