In response to World Hepatitis Day (28 July) under the theme “Accelerate Global Action, Stop Preventable Deaths. Eliminate Hepatitis. Act Now”, FV Hospital continues to support the campaign led by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ministry of Health, and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health to increase awareness of viral hepatitis prevention, screening, and treatment.
Viral hepatitis can progress silently for years
Unlike many acute conditions, hepatitis B and hepatitis C often show no clear symptoms in their early stages. Patients can continue their normal daily activities while the virus quietly causes ongoing liver inflammation, increasing the risk of cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer over time.
For this reason, a simple blood test is one of the most effective ways to detect hepatitis infection early, even before symptoms develop.
Proactive prevention is key to protecting liver health
Experts recommend several effective ways to protect yourself, including:
- Completing the full hepatitis B vaccination schedule as recommended.
- Undergoing regular screening for hepatitis B and C, especially for those at risk or who have never been tested.
- Avoiding sharing needles or any equipment that may come into contact with blood, and ensuring medical procedures are carried out at healthcare facilities that follow strict infection prevention and control standards.
- Practising safe sex.
For pregnant women, screening for hepatitis B early in pregnancy is particularly vital. When detected early, expectant mothers receive appropriate assessment and care. Doctors can combine necessary treatments with preventive measures for the newborn immediately after birth, significantly reducing the risk of mother-to-child transmission.
Evidence-based treatment supporting patients throughout their journey
At FV Hospital, viral hepatitis screening, diagnosis, and treatment follow the latest international clinical practice guidelines.
For hepatitis C, doctors may advise direct-acting antiviral (DAA) medications, which offer exceptionally high cure rates for most patients. Meanwhile, individuals with chronic hepatitis B can be monitored and treated with antiviral medicines when appropriate to suppress viral replication, protect liver function, and lower the risk of long-term complications.
In addition to treatment, FV Hospital integrates viral hepatitis counselling and screening into health check-up packages, specialist consultations, and maternity care. This integrated approach supports early detection, timely treatment, and better long-term liver health.
