The Shining Star of September 2026 is Ms Vo Nu Nhat Xuan, a nurse in the Surgical East Ward. Lively, dedicated and full of energy, Ms Xuan is a valued member of the team who helps patients coming through the ward’s doors feel safe and reassured.
Her nearly eight years at FV Hospital have been a significant part of Ms Xuan’s life and career. FV was her first workplace after graduation, and she has continued to grow professionally alongside the hospital. Starting as a shy intern, Ms Xuan gained experience in different clinical settings. She spent two years in the Anaesthesiology Department, including working on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic, before joining the Surgical East Ward, where she has been a key team member for the past four years.
“At a time when there are many career paths in healthcare, I still choose to stay at FV. Here, a ‘culture of fairness’ ensures that every voice is heard, allowing us to learn and improve together every day,” Ms Xuan shares.
Working in a surgical ward that receives patients with traumatic injuries and those requiring neurosurgical or cosmetic procedures can be demanding. Patients recovering from brain surgery may be particularly vulnerable to falls, making constant vigilance essential.
At FV, patient safety is reflected in the smallest details, from post-operative care procedures and room and toilet designs that help reduce the risk of falls to practical features of nurses’ equipment. For example, the plastic clip on nurses’ lanyards can also be used to unlock ward toilets from the outside in an emergency, allowing staff to reach a patient quickly when assistance is needed.
Her approach to maintaining a positive outlook throughout nearly eight years at FV is simple: she treats every patient as she would a member of her own family. “Seeing them recover and walk home healthy is the greatest gift, washing away all hardship and fatigue,” shares Ms Xuan.
In a happy turn of events, FV also brought Ms Xuan and her husband together. He is now a nurse in the Internal Medicine Department. As Ms Xuan shares, FV always aims to provide a safe environment, not only for patients, but also to help every staff member feel secure in their work, develop their career and transform their life alongside the hospital.
Congratulations to Ms Vo Nu Nhat Xuan on receiving the Shining Star of September 2026 award. Thank you for your dedication, enthusiasm and positive contribution to the FV team. We hope you will continue to inspire your colleagues and make a difference to the lives of our patients.
