Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD  – Head of the Endocrinology Unit at FV Hospital, presents his research at the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Congress 2026

From 18 to 21 August 2026, Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD, Head of the Endocrinology Unit at FV Hospital, attended and presented a scientific research paper titled “The association between glucose tolerance test values and predictive models for pre-eclampsia risk in pregnant women” at the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Congress 2026, held in Melbourne, Australia.

This is the second time that research by Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD, has been selected for presentation at the IDF Congress, following his previous appearance in 2019.

Research on the link between blood glucose and pre-eclampsia risk

The study included nearly 900 pregnant women in 2024, using oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) data to assess the risk of pre-eclampsia with the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) model.

The findings showed a significant correlation between fasting blood glucose and the risk of pre-eclampsia. These findings provide additional insight into the role of blood glucose measurements in prenatal assessment and monitoring, particularly in high-risk pregnancies.

The study also highlights the importance of collaboration between endocrinology and obstetrics in identifying and managing metabolic risk factors during pregnancy. This multidisciplinary approach is relevant to both maternal and foetal health, as metabolic factors can affect both mother and baby.

Updating knowledge from the International Diabetes Federation Congress

Alongside presenting his research, Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD, attended scientific sessions and professional discussions at IDF 2026, keeping up to date with the latest developments in diabetes and metabolic disorder management.

Key topics at the conference included technologies supporting diabetes monitoring and treatment, such as continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems, smart insulin pens, and insulin pumps.

FV’s Direction for Endocrinology Development

Having joined FV Hospital in 2026, Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD, currently serves as Head of the Endocrinology Unit. Since September 2026, he has been leading a comprehensive diabetes management project focused on complications and comorbidities through a multidisciplinary approach. Dr Nam is also involved in establishing the Weight Management Centre, which aims to provide a comprehensive approach to weight management and related health concerns.

The FV Endocrinology Unit provides assessment and treatment for conditions affecting the thyroid, adrenal glands and pituitary gland, as well as paediatric and reproductive endocrine conditions. Through these initiatives, Dr Nguyen Nhat Nam, PhD, focuses on applying evidence-based medicine in clinical practice by keeping up to date with international research and recommendations, with the aim of enhancing patient care.
