The international scientific conference on “Applications of New Technologies and Complication Management in Plastic Surgery” took place on 24-25 April 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City, bringing together leading experts in maxillofacial and plastic surgery.
Dr Nguyen Thanh Tung, PhD, Head of Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery at FV Hospital, presented treatment approaches for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). His presentation attracted strong interest for its integration of digital technology with advanced maxillofacial surgery.

Personalised treatment using 3D imaging technology
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is a serious condition affecting around 8.5% of the Vietnamese population, with an estimated 2.3 million moderate to severe cases. In his opening presentation on the second day of the conference, Dr Nguyen Thanh Tung explained that OSA is not only a respiratory condition; in many cases, it is associated with structural abnormalities of the jaw and facial skeleton.
Effective treatment of OSA depends on accurately identifying the site of airway obstruction. This can be achieved using digital tools such as 3D airway imaging, cone beam CT for maxillofacial analysis, and polysomnography (sleep studies). These technologies are key to developing personalised treatment plans tailored to each patient and are currently among the important diagnostic tools used at FV Hospital.
“The application of digital technology goes beyond diagnosis, it is the key to creating a precise surgical workflow. When surgeons can clearly see the patient’s airway structure through 3D simulations, treatment outcomes are significantly safer and more effective,” emphasised Dr Nguyen Thanh Tung.
Maxillofacial surgery: A long-term solution for OSA
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is the first-line treatment for OSA. However, when conservative approaches such as CPAP or soft tissue procedures are not effective, corrective maxillofacial skeletal surgery can play a decisive role in restoring the airway more sustainably.
Through a series of real clinical cases presented at the conference, Dr Nguyen Thanh Tung demonstrated the effectiveness of orthognathic surgery in significantly enlarging the airway. The presentations also highlighted the positive improvements in patients’ quality of life following treatment and multidisciplinary care at FV Hospital.
At FV Hospital, the screening and treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea involves close collaboration between multiple specialties, including Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery, ENT, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Nutrition and General Surgery. The outcomes of complex cases presented at the conference reflect FV Hospital’s commitment to a coordinated, patient-centred approach to care.

Leading experts in maxillofacial and plastic surgery at the Conference
The Dental and Maxillofacial Department at FV Hospital brings together experienced specialists, led by Dr Nguyen Thanh Tung, who has over 20 years of clinical experience and advanced training in Japan. The department manages a wide range of conditions, including jaw cysts, jaw misalignment and facial trauma. Advanced systems such as 3D cone beam CT and 3D simulation technology support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
FV Hospital also applies Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) in selected procedures to support healing. As a hospital accredited by JCI, FV maintains strict standards in patient safety and infection control, providing high-quality care in Vietnam.
